Sorry, I just can't remember. I do believe they say don't use any gasket spray.
BTW, you can expect your new engine to smoke, belch, and leak like a mother on first run. Don't be alarmed.. just stick to very short runs and rides until everything beds in, and you'll be just fine@

Trickle chargers and positive ground systems A cautionary Tale
I love my Ariel Square 4, and ride it frequently. However, I have learned that the peanut-sized battery in these bikes, even when new, just won't hold a static charge indefinitely. So I've resorted to a common care tactic: hooking up a trickle charger/battery maintainer. It is not hard to find a 6 v...

Re: Otto gasket torque values on MkII
Hi Ike, I've installed these on my MKII. I followed the settings shown for the Otto's on the Draganfly website (and as confirmed by Paul Ackerman). Note final torque for some of the studs is only 10 ft/lbs. Here's the link that shows both torque sequence and value: https://www.draganfly.co.uk/ariel/...

Adding an Oil Pressure Gauge to an Ariel
An oil pressure gauge is a useful addition to a post-1950 Ariel. Sad that such a gauge was omitted from standard equipment for the later models. I've added a beautifully engineered gauge to my 1953 MK II Square 4. Due to the elegant design of the "kit", I believe it would easily install on just abou...

Re: Line boring
Yes, I have used Steve as well for extensive maching on my Mk II. Based on feedback from others, and my own exhaustive research, I have come to believe that Steve may be the only guy left in the US who has both the equipment, fixtures, and skill to properly complete this process. My first machine sh...

Re: Engine Builders
I DO want to give a shout-out to Paul Ackerman, also in Maine, who oversaw the completion of the lower end of my Square 4 MK II with scrupulous attention to detail throughout the whole process. To do it right is not cheap (although Paul's hourly rates are more than reasonable), but doing a half-asse...

Re: Engine Oil
Tom, First, my apology in the delay of your post.. a technical glitch in the forum which I just discovered! Ask 10 guys about engine oil, and you will get 10 different opinions. There are so many variables: age and operational history of the engine; is there a filter?; type of oil pump? I can only n...
